Agar Firdaus bar roo-e-zamin ast, Hamin asto, Hamin asto, Hamin asto
, it means if there is heaven on earth, it is here, it is here, it is here (Kashmir). Kashmir known to its inhabitants as Kashir, has long been called as the Paradise on earth
and rightly so. Kashmir is an extravagantly beautiful place and has developed into a famous tourist destination due to its incredible cultural
diversity, the sheer beauty of the mighty Himalayas, and the green valleys whose charm and beauty draws in tourists from all over the world and from all walks of life. From last few years the valley has been thronged by visitors to understand why exactly Kashmir is being called as the Paradise on earth
. Astounding beauty of nature, natural appeal, blissful atmosphere and misty cool air of Kashmir satiate inner soul of every visitor and encourage them to travel to this place repeatedly.
Kashmir is a place of a multitude of seasons and it transforms the shades and colours of landscape with the seasons. It is magical to see how this endless beauty never ceases to fascinate the visitors with its transforming views from spectacular white snow of winter seasons to blossoming aroma of spring, from stunning greenery of summers to the flaming beauty of autumn. The mountains which surround Kashmir are never monotonous. Infinitely varied in form and colour, they are such as an artist might picture in his dreams. The land of sparkling rivers and sleepy lakes, of astonishing gardens and royal Chinar trees, Kashmir offers some of the most beautiful and wonderful flowering meadows and snow-capped peaks. The treasure of pure natural beauty and charm has earned the valley a nickname of the Switzerland of the East
.
Sir Walter Roper Lawrence in his book writes Valley is an emerald set in pearls; a land of lakes,
clear streams, green turf, magnificent trees and mighty mountains, where the air is cool and sweet, where men are strong and women vie with the soil in fruitfulness.
The beauty and charm of Kashmir has been acknowledged from ages. Some 2,000 years ago King Ashoka apparently visited the valley on a pilgrimage. In the 16th century the great Mughal Akbar came and was followed by Jahangir and Shan Jahan, all of whom left their mark in the form of buildings and gardens. Mughal especially Jahangir became obsessed with the beauty of Kashmir. Jahangir and his wife Nur Jehan built more than 700 gardens in the valley, Shalimar and Nishat gardens on the banks of Dal Lake, being the most famous ones. Many poets and saints who visited Kashmir also became obsessed with the beauty of Kashmir.
